So that is just what I am doing...posting! I just wanted to let you all know that I am aware that I have an empty blog and I plan on rectifying that...today. I will try to have a post with actual pictures ASAP, but for now I'll just update y'all on what Joel and I have been up to.
BRITTANY
I GOT A NEW JOB!!! It's actually a pretty amazing story. I wasn't even looking for a job, although I should've been. I have been working at the BYU-Idaho Internship Office for over 2 years now and love it there. Although it is only part-time and I am graduated, and only had the position until December...I was content. I absolutely LOVE working at the internship office! But, here's the story of how I got my new job:
Monday, Aug. 24th I received a call, while at work, from an employer at Okland Construction who was looking to get information on a job position out to a couple people. I gave him information which apparently wasn't what he was looking for. He said he only wanted a few applicants and ideally wanted someone whose husband was still in school for another year and needed a full-time job. I told him, "You just described me!" It was weird b/c I wasn't even thinking I'd be interested in the position, but the words came out anyway. He then asked if I had a resume I could fax him, which I told him I would send to him.
Then not even an hour later he shows up at my office, as I'm editing my resume and asked if I was Brittany. He came asking for more information on how to get the job position out to people, but I could tell that's not why he was really there. Joel was at my office then and also agreed that he was there pretty much to size me up and get a feel for what I was like. While Jeremy, the guy from Okland Const. was there he asked how much of a notice I would need to give the Internship Office if I got the position and asked me to come for an interview at 8 a.m. the next day (reluctantly I said yes b/c I hate mornings)!
I went to the interview and was there for 15 minutes being interviewed by 3 men. I felt okay with the interview b/c I think I interview well, but still was unsure if I'd get the position (although Joel says he knew I would). Then at around 5:30 p.m. that same day, Tues. Aug. 25th I got a call and was offered the position...and I accepted!
My new position is Office Assistant for Okland Construction (they're building the new auditorium here on BYU-I). I pretty much work on campus in their office there, Monday- Friday from 8-5 p.m. (40 hrs/wk, which is way better than part-time). I get $10.00/hour, plus benefits! It really is a great opportunity and I feel so lucky to have so easily, without any effort received it! What a blessing!
It was very difficult for me to tell my boss, Katie (who is also a good friend) at the internship office that I was leaving b/c I felt so horrible about it. I felt like I was letting them down and putting them in a bind b/c now they have to find a replacement for me (20 hrs/wk) which is a hard thing to do with student’s schedules and all. But she is happy for me and says I'll do great at the position and is glad I took it. I cried b/c I seriously hate letting people down! I looked pathetic...seriously!
The only down side of accepting this new job is that Joel and I will be stuck in Rexburg, Idaho until next October or November. I had to commit to stick with the company until the BYU-I Auditorium is complete. So, our plans to move Ohio to live with Joel's parents for a year, between Joel graduating from BYU-I and starting dental school, have been postponed a bit. I'm sad about it b/c I was really excited for the move and opportunity to spend more time with Joel's family in Ohio. I guess it's all worth it though.
JOEL
He is busy studying for the DAT (Dental Admissions Test). He is planning on taking it Sept. 22nd since Sept. 3rd, his original choice of date is full. I feel bad for the kid, but I don't think he minds. I personally would go NUTS if I was in the library studying from about 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. straight. Not my idea of fun!
However, he is progressing well in his studies and has taken a few practice tests. The first practice test he took he got a 17 (which he informed me was the national average score of acceptance)...without studying at all, may I add. Then after about 2 weeks of studying he decided to take a practice test again and he got a 20!!! He increased his score 3 points within 2 weeks. I have faith that if he keeps studying the way he is, he will do GREAT! He's so smart and is so determined...I'm so proud of my handsome hubby!
Also, a little interesting side note...a couple friends of Joel's have taken the DAT recently and they told him they thought the actual DAT was easier that the practice tests. If that is the case, that would be amazing b/c that means Joel will probably get a decent score. I know Joel would be ecstatic about it and feel pretty happy with himself...especially if he got a higher score than our bro-in-law, Collin. haha!!! Sorry Collin. That just means Joel thinks you set a pretty good/ high bar!
Oh, my cousin, Megan will be starting school here are BYU-I and is staying with us until she can move into her dorm. I feel bad leaving her all day to pretty much just sit in our apartment, but I hope she's okay. Goodness...I'm a horrible host! Hosting, and hosting extremely well is something I pride myself in (for those of you who know me well, know this), so this has been hard for me.
Also, we were able to spend 8 days in Ohio with Joel's family and had so much fun! We miss them (as well as my family) so much! I need to be near family. Pictures and a post from that visit will be featured soon for your entertainment.
So besides that, all is well here with us and we are happy and loving life with one another! We're busy but still love the evening which provide time with one another.
